Decadent S’mores Brownies (Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free)

by Judy Goudy

When I was a kid, campfires were the ultimate treat—gooey marshmallows squished between chocolate and graham crackers.

So when I discovered my food sensitivities, I thought s’mores would be off the table for good.

But guess what?

These Gluten-Free Dairy-Free S’mores Brownies bring back that nostalgic, fireside vibe with a delicious twist.

They’re fudgy, chocolatey, and topped with toasted marshmallows—no campfire required.

And the best part?

They’re guilt-free and packed with wholesome ingredients.

Tips for the Perfect S’mores Brownies

  • Marshmallow Hack: For an extra toasted look, broil the brownies for 1-2 minutes after adding the toppings. Watch closely, though—marshmallows burn fast!
  • Graham Cracker Substitute: If you can’t find gluten-free graham crackers, crushed gluten-free cookies work great.
  • Nut-Free Option: Swap almond milk for oat milk and use sunflower oil instead of coconut oil.

Serving Suggestions

Cut these brownies into bite-sized squares and serve with a cold glass of almond milk or your favorite non-dairy hot chocolate. For a party, arrange them on a rustic wooden board with extra marshmallows and graham crackers for a s’mores-themed dessert platter.

Description

Fudgy brownies with toasted marshmallows, melty chocolate, and crunchy graham cracker crumbs—free of gluten and dairy!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownie Base:

  • 1 cup gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup almond milk (or any non-dairy milk)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup mini gluten-free, dairy-free marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup gluten-free graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 cup dairy-free chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Prep the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper. Lightly grease the paper for easy removal.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Combine the Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the coconut sugar, applesauce, melted coconut oil, almond milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Bring It All Together: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Stir until just combined—don’t overmix, or the brownies might get tough.
  5. Bake the Base: Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 20-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
  6. Add the S’mores Magic: Remove the brownies from the oven and sprinkle the marshmallows, graham cracker crumbs, and chocolate chips over the top. Return the pan to the oven and bake for another 5-7 minutes, just until the marshmallows puff up and turn golden.
  7. Cool and Cut: Let the brownies cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack. Slice into squares once completely cool.
